Android 2.2 tablet - 8in iRobot on taobao - commments?

bigskyintl   December 21st, 2010 12:06a.m.

I am in China and looking for an Android 2.2 tablet to use with Skritter. I found this 8in iRobot tablet on taobao.com: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=8088656459

I also found a site with it described in English:

comments?

Resistive screen means you can use any stylus, but palm rejection may be an issue. Sensitivity is lower than capacitive but is fine, I use a resistive no probs. Might be worth a try for a cheap price. Can you see it in action at any local markets?

I read some of the comments right under there and the seller said that it can't run Flash:

Question, November 29, 2010
Can this tablet run FLASH 10.1?... Thanks

Hello, thank you for your enquiry.Sorry, now this device cant run flash but later can, this one can run flash, here is the link, you can take a reference:

Not sure if that second one would work, but the first one doesn't look good.

if you're technologically inclined you can always flash a 2.2 rom on to your device, if it is currently running 2.1

It looks like a new Archos 101 8GB sells new for about $335 on eBay, and a Samsung Tab 16GB sells new for about $500 on eBay... any places to buy these for less?

bigskyintl   December 22nd, 2010 8:24p.m.

I am confused... I thought any Android 2.2 supports Flash... is this not true?

I understand all Android 2.2 devices may not come loaded with Flash, but I think Flash can be loaded... correct?

What does it take to load Flash? An internet connection? something else?

thanks

size comparison: Archos 101 25cm x 15cm vs. Wacom Bamboo 25cm x 18cm

I am not sure; I haven't been keeping up on the proliferation of Android devices. I had guessed that all Android 2.2 devices would have Flash, but the seller did make that comment for this one, so maybe there's some limitations in the case of cheaper devices.

anything running an android froyo (2.2) based rom can support flash, if it is not installed already, you simply download the flash .apk from the the "market" application, (it's free)

i'm not sure how much the device's hardware would reflect on how the flash will perform

if the seller is telling you flash isn't supported, it must not be 2.2, or they are misinformed

You can find this information on Engadget:
"Archos is planning to release a Flash plug-in before the end of January that will enable full Flash 10 support as well as hardware acceleration for optimized video decoding, but it's currently waiting on that good ol' Adobe certification. "

Looks like the Archos 70 goes for about $300 on eBay (including shipping)

Archos 70: 20cm x 11.4cm - 300g (7.91in x 4.49in - 11 oz) vs. Wacom Bamboo 25cm x 18cm

Archos 70 tablet info: http://www.archos.com/products/ta/archos_70it/index.html?country=us&lang=en

Anyone using one of these for skritter? comments?

If it doesn't run Flash, you're cooked. That's too bad, the ArchOS tablet looked like a nice budget option.

after reading this review of a very low end Android tablet http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372225,00.asp I have decided to wait for the new Android tablets with their new "Honeycomb" OS that is optomized for tablets http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2375047,00.asp
Looks like there will be some good valued priced tablet by mid 2011
