Feature Request: Ellipses

  December 1st, 2013 5:28p.m.

Hi Skritter team,

I wanted to ask whether it would be possible to not only show ellipses in the pinyin and definition area, but also in the characters field. For example, 或者...或者... instead of 或者或者 or 越...越 instead of 越越. I feel that suchlike expressive representation would greatly contribute to the clarity and memorability of grammatical constructs. (Perhaps use a parser to filter out the periods of ellipsis before passing them on for the writing part).

Keep up the good work!
Kai

I second that request. It's frustrating to see grammar patterns show up all mushed together.

We've thought about this, but given how we handle the word writing fields, it would have been incredibly complex to add support for ellipses, so we decided not to implement it. Sorry!

Can you change the right-hand representations of character strings without running into problems with the "action area"? I'd be more than happy if it could be displayed only there. Possibly a user-manipulable field that replaces the original character string (like the vocab definition string), but is disregarded for data passed to the "action area" (unlike the vocab definition string).

We've done what we can for this with the sentences, and some of the grammar patterns which should include ellipses should probably just be studied as sentences (or chosen as examples for the words contained in them). So I'd look to the sentences as the only workaround.
