Limited offline version

Because I don't really know what the technical background is, I have no idea how easy or hard (suspecting the latter) it would be to make an offline version.

The reason I am specifically interested in that is that I (when I finally have a job....graduating in the middle of an economic crisis wasn't a great idea:) will be spending at least half an hour on the train on my way to work. Obviously I don't have an internet connection but apart from that it would be the perfect oportunity for me to practice. I was thinking along the lines of being able to press a button saying that it should prepare all the characters in the review bar plus an additional few new characters. I then download the relevant information and can practice it on the train. In the evening I can then again connect the laptop to the internet where skritter can update my practice stats.
The more I write about the more difficult it seems, but for me it would definitely be an awesome feature...don't know how many other people in the skritter community commute to work by train.

How willing would you be to download Google Gears to get this to work?

It wouldn't be trivial, but Skritter can load a ton of words in advance, no problem. Preparing new words might be a bit more tricky. Just would have to get it to realize when it's got internet again to submit the review stats.

The way it's set up right now, it wouldn't work as well, because related words have to wait until reviews are submitted, but perhaps that could be fixed.

If we went to the trouble of hooking up Google Gears, it could flexibly queue up all the reviews. Otherwise, you'd have to leave the practice page open the whole time, 'cause if you close the Flash, it loses state.

It would definitely be awesome for train commutes. Unless there's a lot of demand for this, though, I don't think we'll try hooking it up soon.

I see where you're coming from and am not that surprised by your answer:)

Google what? Personally I don't mind downloading gigabytes of whatever is necessary but the not closing the browser would be a problem (as in I go to work in the morning and would only switch on the laptop on the way back 9 hours later...).

I also don't know how many people would be using it...here in Switzerland commuting to work like that is fairly common but if your country is that small it's easy to get a good train connection to everywhere:) and so far I haven't spotted any fellow Swiss here (although I have passed the word on).

I commute 30 minutes by bus every day... having a mobile version of skritter would be awesome, but as is, I just flip through my Anki cards.

I'd download google gears. This would be a great subscriber feature.

I would also be interested in this functionality since there is no WiFi in the vicinity of my classes during the day, and am totally fine with installing Google Gears.
