Deleting lists but not deleting words

williambarrow   February 18th, 2014 1:18a.m.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but if I delete a list from Skitter will the words remain in my words and keep coming back up for review as normal. I have way too many lists at the moment and want to delete some of the older ones so clear out some space, but obviously want these words to stay active within my words and come up for review when they're due.

If I delete the lists will they still come up or will I have lost them?

Thanks for the help.

mate, if you was to delete tha lisss, ey'd prolly stohp comming uhp preh-ey queckley. you wuh-en hafteh stuy em aguhn. but theys wuds be impo-ent as well, so you best keep reviewing. otherwise, they'll come back to kick you in the noze lay-er if you add thuhm again coz the stuhtistiks isent deli-ed

Dear williambarrow,
the words you already added always stay, unless you manually delete all words in your account.
It is safe to delete lists you don't need anymore and your progress on the words in it will be saved and the words you added already will come up in reviews like they should.

Cheers,
Herakles

I think that if you delete a list, the words will disappear from your regular study rotation unless the words also appear in another list that you don't delete.

Why do you need to clear up space? You could always make a new monster list that contains all of the old words from your other lists, add that one to your studies, then delete the numerous small lists that you've got.

Thanks everyone so far who has answered @williambarrow question.

However, is there anyone from Skritter who can confirm whether @Herakles is correct. Apologies if the question has been answered in another post. Just to satisfy my OCD-urgings I would like to clean up my lists.

Thanks! :-)

Just read the pop-up when I tried to delete a list. I am pretty sure it is as @herakles suggests

ricksh   February 20th, 2014 12:00a.m.

I seem to remember the popup saying you don't lose progress but will not be studying the word unless is in another list i.e. as per DependableSkeleton

Thanks @ricksh you are 100% right and I am a total clown! ;-)

I just did a test then on a small-list. It deletes the words from the 'My Words' section, and thus, I assume, the SRS rotation if it is not in another list. However, if you re-add the word then I think it also takes into account your scores re: that word. When I went into a word that I had deleted "民企' it still had the scores re: said word.

I asked Skritter and the reply is pasted below. Looks like if you want to keep the words in rotation then you can't delete the list or will need to move the words to a new one:

"Hi Will,

If you delete a list and the words inside of it are the only instance and don't exist in other lists, the words would also disappear from your studies. If you later on added a word that had been deleted from a list, the progress would then restore as if it weren't deleted anymore. If you have a lot of lists and would like to limit the number of them, I'd say copy the contents of one list and paste it into a section of another, then delete the list you had copied the words from. You can do this easily by going to a list's page, go to the desired list sections contents, select all of the words with the select-all checkbox in the upper left hand corner, go to "Word Actions" and then click "Add to list"."
