Query

Antimacassar   April 22nd, 2011 5:58a.m.

There are a number of words that I added to my list of words from my queue that I don't have any reading practice for, since I added them before I chose to add reading to my parts studying section.

My question is thus: is there anyway to add those words' reading part without doing it the hard way and going through them one by one and adding them individually?

mcfarljw   April 22nd, 2011 7:29a.m.

Yes, there is a way. You can export all of your words using the 'export words' tool on the 'My Words' page. Now that you have reading practice enabled you can paste them in the queue again. This time when you add them reading mode will be added.

I did this awhile back, because like you, I have lots of older studied words/characters without definition and reading practice.

ok cheers!

孟志书, (or anyone else)...i tried your suggestion, it would work but would take a very long time to do. Since I have around 9000 words in my words and the maximum number allowed to be entered into the queue at anyone time is 200. Is there any other way or am I missing something?

mcfarljw   April 23rd, 2011 4:08a.m.

i was hoping you didn't have so many words haha, but you're right it would take too long to do it that way. i remember i did it when i had around it was annoying enough to do. other than that method i'm not sure how else to do it.

you could try e-mailing the friendly Skritter team. i'm sure they have or could whip up a quick script to run on the back end to take care of this for you.

I did this recently, and it caught a few things, but the funny this was that even after doing it, the total numbers still don't seem to all be the same.

It was quite tedious even using a script to break up the words into 200 line sections and stuff them into the clipboard.

You can go to the list, from there go to "Change Study Settings" and change the drop-down menu "Add Vocab Starting With" to the beginning of the list.

I had the same problem before one exam. I bombed my account. Later Nick told me you could set Skritter to re-add your words but still keep your study progress.

i had scott run a script for me awhile back that pulled all the items that weren't being studied in all four parts/modes. it was interesting to see how many pieces were missing, when i thought i'd gotten it all fixed.

nick   April 25th, 2011 11:29a.m.

Antimacassar, I've run the script and made a list with the 287 missing reading items added to it under your account. You can add that list to get those items into play.

Hope this helps!

Antimacassar   April 26th, 2011 3:14a.m.

ok, thanks a lot :)

mcfarljw   April 27th, 2011 4:57a.m.

@nick, would you mind running a script on my account to check for items that aren't being studied in all four parts? there really shouldn't be any holes, but you never know.

nick   April 27th, 2011 2:41p.m.

Only a few missing:
北极熊 rune
兆 rune, tone
太极拳 rune
瞄准 tone
冗 rune, tone
川 rune, tone

别人 rune
乙 rune, tone

Thanks, everything should be in place now. I also removed 虎子 as I'm pretty sure it was an early attempt at adding 胡子.
