The HSK (汉语水平考试, Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì) is a standardised proficiency test for non-native speakers of Mandarin. This deck contains the HSK 3 handwriting characters (书写字) from the official HSK syllabus published in November 2025, which the new HSK exam uses from 13 December 2026.
The characters are ordered by usefulness, not alphabetically. Each one gets a weighted score from several sources: how often it appears in real Chinese (Jun Da's character frequency list and a web corpus), and how early it is taught in widely used textbooks (New Practical Chinese Reader and Integrated Chinese) and graded readers. Characters that are both common and taught early come first, so the first sections give you the characters you will meet and use most, and you can start writing everyday words sooner than if you worked through the list from A to Z.
